Eyes Wide Shut - BDSM Movie Review

Plot Summary: "A doctor (Tom Cruise) becomes obsessed with having a sexual encounter after his wife (Nicole Kidman) admits to having sexual fantasies about a man she met and chastising him for dishonesty in not admitting to his own fantasies. This sets him off into unfulfilled encounters with a dead patient's daughter and a hooker. But when he visits a nightclub, where a pianist friend Nick Nightingale (Todd Field) is playing, he learns about a secret sexual group and decides to attend one of their congregations. However, he quickly learns he is in well over his head and finds he and his family are threatened." Let's start off by saying whenever you're looking at a Stanley Kubrick movie you have to see it multiple times to understand it. Consider "A Clockwork Orange" and you know what I'm talking about. His movies are very complicated but in a good way. They make you think and the more times you see them the better you understand them. First impressions mean little when watching movies by Kubrick. Having said that let me say that the photography and lighting and composition is simply outstanding and I suggest that you watch this movie at least once, without sound to truly enjoy the visual feast in front of you. Nicole Kidman with her shapely ass is a visual feast as are all the beautiful masked naked women as part of the orgy scene. This is a classic "BDSM oriented Damsel in Distress" movie by big studio standards. It shows enough to get us thinking about it, but not enough to jump in the water. It seems most people either love or hate this movie which is typical of Kubricks films. I loved it and if you have a Blu-Ray hi-definition player, this is the time to use it. The color schemes will take your breath away and at times you feel like you're in the scene with them. The only suggestion I would have it to fire the piano player because the one note plunking gets really annoying during the movie.
